Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager, Respiratory Therapy, the Unit Manager is responsible for the direct supervision of (RT I) Respiratory Therapists and support staff (Clinical Leads-RT II) as assigned. A key focus of this role involves the coordination and organization of assigned human, equipment and material resources to ensure effective program delivery. This role will support quality innovation and the identification and resolution of issues that impact service to site, in consultation with the Respiratory Therapy Manager. The Unit Manager is the first line contact for assigned staff to resolve problems related to staffing, patient care or other service concerns. This individual ensures that adequate staff are scheduled. Hiring, discipline and performance conversations are a responsibility of this position, in consultation with the Manager and Human Resources. Ruther responsibilities include investigation of complaints, resolution of issues (both patient and staff), and follow up where required. This role may also lead special projects as assigned by the Respiratory Therapy Manager.

Description:

The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day unit operation including direct supervision of unit staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff, and other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis and provides clinical support to patient/resident care by exception only. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient/resident care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and adheres and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values. Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized and accredited School of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS, current professional license and member in good standing with College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA). 5 years current relevant experience required within an acute care setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership in Respiratory Therapy. Must be able to maintain privacy, dignity, confidentiality and morale of all concerned.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent, current knowledge in all clinical aspects of service delivery within Respiratory Therapy. Must be able to integrate and apply clinical excellence in the day-to-day operations. Computer skills essential.


Preferred Qualifications:

Previous supervisory experience preferred. Familiarity with applicable legislation, professional Standards of Practice, restricted activities. Current membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT)
