Description:

The Unit Manager acts as a role model for staff and an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient. In the planning and organizing of day to day operations, coordinates, directs and monitors patient care and activities of the members of the team. The Unit Manager identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to provide holistic patient care. Provides leadership in enhancing a positive relationship with patient/family, members of the interdisciplinary team and internal/external resources and departments. A high degree of professionalism and promotion of learning of self and others is maintained. The Unit Manager supports and participates in education and research that enhances quality improvement in patient care. The Unit Manager provides supervision to RNs, LPNs, HCAs, Service attendants and unit clerks. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Recent 3 years in acute care experience. Recent 3-5 years experience in management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Problem solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills. Experience in a formal leadership role (ie. AHN, Unit Manager) Experience managing staffing and scheduling, conflict resolution, performance management, quality improvement or change initiatives. Proven ability to lead with integrity and accountability in alignment with organizational values. Must be highly motivated, self-directed role model. Ability to work independently and within a team. Recent 3 years Acute Medicine experience.
