Your Opportunity:
The Unit Manager is responsible for the day-to-day unit operation including direct supervision of unit staff. This role interacts with physicians, nursing staff, other unit staff and other departments and interdisciplinary team members on a daily basis and provides clinical support to patient and family care by exception only. The position facilitates and fosters interdisciplinary participation in patient and family care activities and coaches, mentors, motivates and empowers clinical staff. The Unit Manager creates a climate of interdepartmental respect and collaboration, and adheres and models the Covenant Health mission, vision and values. The responsibilities of this position are focused around four critical aspects of care and service: People and teams, Access and flow, Quality and safety, as well as Efficiency and Resources.
Description:
The Unit Manager plays a key role in safe and timely patient care and patient outcomes. To minimize negative outcomes, Unit Manager must possess considerable clinical knowledge, skill level and leadership abilities. Unit Manager must have knowledge related to protocols, standards and techniques for the department and the patient population. The work impacts the level of patient care by ensuring that clinical practice reflects the most current, evidence-based techniques and standards. This position is non-unionized.

Bachelor Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing education program required. Active or eligible for registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum five (5) years recent NICU nursing experience required. Recent NICU Charge Nurse or Assistant Head Nurse experience required. Combination of education and experience may be considered.
