Description:

In this leadership role, the Unit Manager, Rural & Seniors Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of pharmacy services across rural acute care and continuing care sites. You will lead and support a dedicated team of pharmacy technicians and assistants by fostering a positive, collaborative, and patient-centered work environment where staff feel valued and empowered to succeed. From recruitment and onboarding to coaching, mentoring, scheduling, and performance management, you will play an important role in supporting team development and operational excellence. The Unit Manager ensures the safe, efficient, and effective delivery of pharmacy services through oversight of medication distribution systems, inventory management, workflow optimization, and pharmacy technologies. This role supports compliance with provincial and federal regulations, organizational policies, and best practices related to medication safety, infection prevention, and hazardous drug handling. You will also contribute to quality improvement initiatives, accreditation activities, and risk mitigation strategies that enhance patient and resident care experiences. Working closely with interdisciplinary teams and organizational leaders, the Unit Manager promotes strong communication and collaboration across departments while representing pharmacy services on committees and strategic initiatives. This role also contributes to operational and financial planning through budget support and preparation of reports and service utilization data. The successful candidate will bring a commitment to continuous improvement, compassionate leadership, and excellence in service delivery, aligned with the Covenant Health mission, vision, and values. Required Qualifications:

Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Technician Program or equivalent. Registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.Minimum 5 years of recent hospital pharmacy experience. At least 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in pharmacy operations. Travel is required and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver’s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent knowledge of pharmacy regulations and best practices. Ability to analyze data and implement evidence-based improvements. Effective communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and pharmacy information systems. Will require inter-site travel to Covenant Health sites throughout Alberta. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities.


Preferred Qualifications:

Direct supervisory experience in a unionized environment. Experience in rural healthcare and seniors care settings. Familiarity with EPIC and other pharmacy technologies. Membership in CSHP and/or PTSA.
