We're looking for a dynamic and organized Volunteer Program Coordinator to lead our volunteer services and make a lasting impact through purposeful programming and collaboration. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for maintaining an effective and efficient volunteer service and is responsible for the intake process including recruitment, selection, placement, orientation and training to ensure volunteer assignments meet the needs of both the site and volunteer. Also, this position incorporates community involvement through work experience, event specific opportunities and actively participates on community and in-house committees. This person is responsible for the integrity and management of the volunteer program in alignment with Covenant Health policies. Please note: Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.
Description:
We are seeking a highly organized and motivated Volunteer Program Coordinator to lead and manage all aspects of our volunteer services. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the infrastructure needed to support a thriving volunteer program, including recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation. You will ensure volunteers are effectively placed across various programs, coordinate with community partners such as schools, churches, and volunteer associations, and provide ongoing coaching and recognition to enhance volunteer engagement and retention. The position involves supervising day-to-day volunteer activities, producing regular reports and statistics, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and collective agreements. You will also work closely with Recreation and Spiritual Care teams to address program-specific volunteer needs and support community events. Additional responsibilities include organizing the annual volunteer recognition event, maintaining volunteer-related resources like the library and Tuck Shop, and responding to public inquiries. Required Education & Years of Experience. Minimum post-secondary certification required in volunteer management, or equivalent relative program. Recent experience in managing and organizing volunteers required. Must have 2 years’ directly related experience.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Additional Required Demonstrated Competencies. Minimum of 1-2 years’ previous experience in a continuing care setting. Ability to interact with a variety of people. Excellent organizational, verbal, and public speaking skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and internet. Change Management skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology/Sociology/Humanities or diploma in human resources is preferred. Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada membership. Volunteer Management diploma is desirable. Experience as a volunteer in a healthcare or community is desirable. Extensive Knowledge of community services and agencies.
