The Medical Affairs department oversees clinical governance, medical staffing, and educational initiatives across its Alberta facilities. The team ensures medical staff comply with bylaws and rules, manages appointments and privileges, and supports professional development for physicians and clinical leaders. Reporting to the Manager, Medical Affairs, the Physician Workforce Assistant (PWA) serves as the primary liaison for medical staff privileging at Covenant Health. This position functions within a highly regulated environment governed by registering bodies and requires knowledge of Medical and Midwife Staff Bylaws and Rules. This role works closely with medical leadership and appointed medical staff to ensure privileging processes are completed smoothly across Covenant Health services and facilities. The PWA also collaborates with Alberta Health Services’ Medical Affairs departments once physicians are appointed, coordinating privileging and access requirements to support seamless service delivery. In addition, the PWA contributes to a wide range of responsibilities, including recruitment activities, contract administration for medical staff, privileging and Observership processes, onboarding activities, database management, reporting, and providing direct support to medical leadership. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 41 Collective Agreement. To note, the primary location of work will be moving to the Edmonton General Hospital Campus in mid-October. This role requires the application of specialized skills and/or inscope leadership for a small group of program staff within the department. Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: A related post-secondary certificate required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of a one (1) year post-secondary certificate in Office Administration or Business Administration is required. Candidates must have between two (2) to five (5) years of relevant experience and demonstrate an aptitude for understanding and applying bylaws and policies. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Strong computer skills are essential, including proficiency in MS Access, MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook 365, Adobe, and SharePoint, with the ability to create, edit, format, document, record, and report information effectively. Experience with both online and physical record management is required, along with excellent interpersonal and communication skills (whether in person, by telephone, or in writing) demonstrated with professionalism, diplomacy, confidentiality, and tact. The successful candidate will possess strong accuracy and attention to detail, be self-directed and motivated, and be able to manage continuous interruptions in a complex and changing environment while working under pressure to meet tight deadlines. The role also requires the ability to manage conflicts, work independently with minimal supervision, and exercise sound judgement in making informed decisions, solving complex problems, and analyzing data.

Preferred Qualifications:

Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma in Office Administration or Business Administration. Previous experience in physician privileging. Prior experience working with physicians in an administrative capacity. Knowledge of hospital systems and organizational structures.
