Your Opportunity:
The Cook’s Assistant supports Cooks in the production kitchen by assisting with the preparation, cooking, and baking of a variety of menu items for patient meals, cafeteria service, and catering functions. Working under limited supervision and in accordance with tally sheets, established menus, standardized recipes and catering sheets, the Cook’s Assistant helps ensure food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to established quality standards. Key responsibilities include preparing and pre-preparing ingredients, assisting with cooking and baking tasks, portioning and assembling food items, and ensuring the appropriate use and storage of food supplies. The Cook’s Assistant is also responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in food production areas and supporting safe food handling practices. Additional duties may include participating in the training of students, providing relief support in other Food Services areas as required, and performing other related duties. All duties are carried out in accordance with established standards and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies, and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement. Shifts: (Saturday & Sunday 14:30-18:30) Please note: Classifications Under Review.

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to lift 20 pounds (9 kg) above shoulder height, required. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds (27.2kg), required. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills and training in customer relations. Ability to work quickly and accurately under deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Ability to follow directions and guidelines. High standards for cleanliness and sanitation. High levels of honesty and integrity. Clear Criminal Records Check. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement.
Preferred Qualifications:An equivalent combination of education & experience may be considered. WHMIS certificate desired. Food safe certificate desired. One year of food service experience in a hospital/institutional setting is desired. Previous food service experience in a restaurant/cafeteria setting or customer service experience may be considered desirable in combination with other qualifications. WHMIS Certificate, desired.
