Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Supervisor and as an integral member of the Nutrition and Food Services team, the Food Service Attendant II (Warewashing/Cleaner) is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation within the main kitchen and food production areas. Key responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing kitchen wares, utensils, and equipment, as well as performing detailed and deep cleaning throughout the kitchen. This includes cleaning equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and all food production areas while ensuring adherence to established safety and sanitation policies and procedures. The role also supports warewashing operations for patient dishware and kitchen wares used in food production and service. The Food Service Attendant II is responsible for the safe use, handling, and storage of cleaning chemicals and supplies. This includes following WHMIS guidelines, reading and understanding product labels, wearing appropriate PPE and ensuring proper storage and distribution of cleaning products. Additional duties include maintaining sanitation and safety standards within the kitchen, participating in the training and orientation of new staff, conducting safety and sanitization audits, and performing other related duties as required. All duties are carried out in accordance with established standards and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies, and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the CUPE 2111 Collective Agreement. Shifts: (Monday- Friday 12:00-17:00). Please note: Classifications Under Review.

Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required. Must have high standards of cleanliness and sanitation. Must be able to understand proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures. Frequently required to lift weights of 50-100 pounds. Significant periods of standing and reaching resulting from prolonged lengths of time spent at workstations. Exposure to various chemical compounds and cleaners, some of which require special handling. Exposure to noise, water, fluctuating environmental temperatures and unpleasant odors normally associated with the ware washing areas.
Preferred Qualifications:WHMIS certificate desired. Food Safe certificate desired. One year of food service experience in a hospital or institutional setting desired.
