Post Secondary Paralegal/Legal Assistant diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two (2) year experience in a position which involved providing legal support to multiple persons and/or teams.
Additional Required Qualifications:
3 to 5 years of experience managing legal files and matters in a regulated industry (e.g. the healthcare field, health law, insurance or litigation) would be an asset. Experience working with relevant legislation and court processes. Ability to display tact and professionalism in dealing independently with internal and external contacts. Mature and able to deal with the emotional and controversial nature of the type of information obtained, delivered and utilized. Understands the legislative and ethical parameters affecting Covenant Health. Ability to perform in a team-oriented environment, working with and effectively communicating openly with persons (management & staff) of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and level of sophistication. Inquisitive with a systematic and organized working style. Ability to function in a complex environment and to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Ability to maintain a professional level of diplomacy and confidentiality. Ability to work under pressures of sensitive information, confidentiality restrictions and obligations, organizational reputation, and escalating medical/legal/political involvement. Ability to understand the implications of, and respond to, inflexible deadlines, limitations and external requirements with serious implications to organization, individuals and various relationships if those deadlines and requirements are not met. Ability to travel to Covenant Health sites and to Court as may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
5+ years of relevant experience in a broad variety of legal disciplines. General knowledge of risk management, quality assurance, legal concepts or issues, legislation and the legislative confines that affect operations of health care in Alberta. Working knowledge of legal, medical and insurance terminology.
