Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Capital Planning & Projects, Capital Management, or as assigned, the Senior Planner, Accommodations and Real Estate is responsible for the management of all space and accommodation planning; lease management; special project planning & coordination; and all furniture planning needs. You will be a dynamic leader in your profession, responsible for coordinating, and managing all furniture and space requirements for Covenant Health across the province and provide a full range of interior design services; facilitate all aspects of various moves, changes, furnishing needs and tracking of such. In cooperation with all Covenant Health departments, Leadership Team members and various stakeholders as required, you will also provide project coordination & management of all space renovations and manage furnishing and equipment relocations with the appropriate users and support departments. Please note: Travel is required to all sites as needed and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver’s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description:

The Senior Planner, Accommodations and Real Estate, provides excellence in all aspects of space management & real estate led project planning & delivery. They lead the development, coordination and facilitation of complex and integrated accommodation strategies for; Clinical space; Office space; Storage space; Classroom and other spaces within Covenant Health, ranging from site specific solutions to regional considerations. They will support Master Plan Development and updates. This position also coordinates, manages and facilitates the planning and development of small to medium sized non-clinical projects including tenant improvements, capital upgrades, major repair and maintenance, as well as staff moves, additions, and changes in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures and standards. The Senior Planner ensures standards and guidelines for the design and management of space, are applied consistently across Covenant Health, owned or operated space, and maintains effective project development that not only meets client needs and the overall health service plan, but is also fiscally responsible. Additional accountabilities include; Coordinates and manages all furnishing and equipment relocations with the appropriate users and support departments; Manages the project schedule in adherence to user requirements; Accountable for life safety codes, zoning, inclusive design, and sustainable construction and operation of our facilities; Supporting in the development of project estimates and management of project and operational funding as it pertains to various scopes within space management and furnishings; Critically evaluate processes and procedures to improve efficiency, optimize space, and support clients; Ensuring effective asset management through utilization of occupancy metrics and cost-benefit analysis when required. This position is non-unionized.

Required Qualifications:

Post secondary degree or certificate in Architectural Technology, Health Services Management, Planning, or a related discipline is required. Certificate in Construction Administration an asset. 3-5 years of related Health Care facility, space management and/or property management, and/or real estate experience at a leadership level, is required. Must be proficient with all standard office desktop software and Auto Cad. Relevant experience in project management and training with project management related software is required. Well developed interpersonal (influence, persuasion, negotiation, leadership, and communication) skills are required for this position, as is strong capabilities in analytical and conceptual thought processes and actions.

Additional Required Qualifications:

This role requires a proven record of effective communication; strong interpersonal skills in order to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide range of operational stakeholders, including Leadership members and both clinical & technical staff. Must be able to manage change, complex prioritization and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector. Advanced skill in communications (both verbal and written), facilitation, creative problem solving, and relationship-based conflict resolution and mediation is required. Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously is required. The candidate will demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Urban Planning, or Finance plus appropriate licenses and designations in project management, planning, interior design, or other related areas is an asset. 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in space management and accommodation planning, preferably including experience in healthcare or other large institutional, publicly funded environments of significant size, complexity and diversity.
