Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Therapeutics and Volunteer Services, the Recreation Therapy Assistant performs their tasks under the clinical direction of the Recreation Therapist. Under the direction of the Recreation Therapist, through the promotion of resident choice and independence the Recreation Therapy Assistant implements goal oriented recreation programs/activities to meet the recreation and leisure needs of the residents. As part of the interdisciplinary team, the Recreation Therapy Assistant supports resident centered care, provides direction and support to volunteers assisting with recreation groups and performs other related duties as required. All activities carried out by the Recreation Therapy Assistant are consistent with Covenant Health Mission, Vision and Values and Covenant Health Policies and Procedures. Please note, this facility provides Long Term Care (LTC) or Designated Supportive Living (DSL) services and by Order of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, many Covenant Health employees are required to work only at a single LTC/DSL site for the remainder of the pandemic. If you are successful on a position with Covenant Health, the hiring manager will confirm if you will be required to work at only one LTC/DSL site in Alberta. Classifications under review.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or recognized equivalent required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to speak, read and write fluently in the English language required. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet varying needs. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to motivate and engage residents. Interest and commitment to working with residents experiencing cognitive and physical impairments. Possess skills in arts and crafts, music, drama and/or cultural arts.

Preferred Qualifications:

Post secondary education in a related field preferred. One year experience in continuing care preferred. One year working with recreation programming with a special population preferred. Proficiency with computers preferred. Class 4 driver’s license preferred.
