The Long Term Care program is a premier Continuing Care program in Southern Alberta, we approach our work as a vocation – a calling. In essence, we work where our residents live. Recreation Therapists are part of the greater collaborative team that include RNs, LPNs, HCAs, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants, Social Workers, Unit Clerks, and Family Physicians. In Long Term Care, there is always a RN available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, onsite and in the department. The RT I completes assessments, goals, and treatment plans for new residents on caseload within program guidelines. Oversees the planning and implementation of treatment and participation programs based on the needs of the residents. Evaluations will be completed when required. The RT I will review and update the assessment, goals, and treatment plan of assigned caseload as per guidelines. Evaluate residents progress and ensure residents documentation is written in accordance with specific policy and procedure. Work within fellow Recreation Therapists in building wide programming for our residents and patients. Facilitate onsite and offsite programming as able. Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver's abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description: The Recreation Therapist I is responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services in the area of functional intervention, leisure education and recreation participation. Responsible for assessing client's recreation and leisure needs, developing treatment plans and providing therapeutic programs/ activities to meet these needs. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Baccalaureate in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or a related field required. Registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Must demonstrate initiative, creativity, and good judgement. Able to perform a variety of therapeutic interventions. Must demonstrate skills in decision making, problem solving and conflict management. Must adhere to Professional and Facility code of ethics. Must be physically capable of transferring, lifting and portering residents and equipment. Must be familiar with the operation of all recreation equipment. Must possess Class 4 Drivers License or be willing to procure same within 3 months of starting.
Preferred Qualifications:One year Therapeutic Recreation experience in Continuing Care or similar environment. Experience with Connect Care. Experience with Care Planning in Connect Care. Knowledge and awareness of InterRAI LTCf Assessments.
