Your Opportunity:

The Geriatric Community Rehabilitation (GCR), Bridges, and Adult Day Programs (ADP) are the premier outpatient seniors' programs in Southern Alberta. The GCR program serves seniors who require outpatient therapy services. This program focuses primarily on rehabilitation after an event or injury. The Bridges Day program serves our seniors in the community by providing maintenance care through social, cognitive and physical engaging activities in the hope of maintaining independence. The ADP program provides respite for clients with cognitive effects in a secure environment. The Recreation Therapy Assistant (TA) for recreation is a member of a larger inter-disciplinary team that includes Nurses, HCAs, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Therapy Assistants, Registered Dietitians, Pharmacists, Clerk and a Geriatrician. The posting is for a Recreation Therapy Assistant. Please note: Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver's abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.

Description:

Description: The Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of therapeutic rehabilitation programs.  The Therapy Assistant participates in assessment related activities as well as the planning and development of client programs which includes leading individual or group treatment and educational interventions. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: A directly related diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A graduate of a Therapeutic Recreation – Gerontology Diploma, Recreation Therapy Diploma or equivalent training. Must have experience working with elderly or disabled individuals. Experience in hospital and community settings an asset. Must be able to follow instructions and know restrictions and limitations of their contact with patient treatment and education. Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Must be comfortable working with disabled and uncommunicative adults. Must demonstrate patience and flexibility. Must be able to concentrate over extended periods of time. Ability to diplomatically address patient/family concerns. Is required to spend considerable time standing, walking and in close supportive contact with clients. Is required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements, change position (assume awkward positions), transfer and/or lift adults and transport equipment. Must have Class 4 Drivers License or be willing to procure within 3 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with Connect Care.
