Your Opportunity:
The CICU at the Misericordia Hospital is a fast-paced, dynamic unit with a welcoming interdisciplinary team who support the critically ill cardiac patient population. Our staff utilize their critical thinking skills to provide exemplary care for our clients. We provide nursing care, education, and support to our CICU patients, and run part of a hospital-wide Code Team. The CICU RN provides safe and competent care for patients with various deficits and co-morbidities using critical care knowledge and principles of family centered care. The RN participates actively in patient care decision making, particularly within the multi-disciplinary team on patient care rounds. They encourage patients to actively participate in their own care, facilitating their efforts to do so effectively and safely. The RN communicates changes to the interdisciplinary team in an effective and timely manner. Staff are supported to annually recertify their critical care competencies, ensuring that they are up to date on the most current policies and procedures.
Description:
The Registered Nurse (RN) participates in nursing assessments and interventions, care planning, implementing prescribed treatments, administering medications, evaluating treatments, and monitoring/documenting treatment progress and patient/resident response. Acting as an advocate, coordinator and liaison for the patient/resident, the RN identifies needs and sets priorities in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. The RN facilitates patient/resident and family education and discharge planning, and may be required to act in a charge nurse capacity. The RN is responsible for the provision of care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Additional Required Qualifications:1 year of critical care experience (within the last 2 years). Candidates will have completed a Critical Care Course recognized by AHS/COV, and/or must pass a Critical Care Challenge exam. Exceptional communication skills, ability to convey changes in patient conditions clearly and promptly. Strong organizational skills. In addition to proficient assessment abilities, the candidate should have well-developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications:The following will be considered: Current ACLS certification. Charge nurse experience. Connect Care training. Candidates who have completed their final practicum in a Critical Care unit. A minimum of 3 years of medical/surgical experience within the last 2 years. Candidates without previous Critical Care experience may be considered and if selected, will be required to undergo the Critical Care Orientation Program (OPACCA).
