Our team of health care professionals is focused on providing specialized Emergency care and urgent treatments in a community hospital setting. The Registered Nurse is a leader in the ED team and provides a wide variety of nursing care to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to make a positive difference toward their health and well-being. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care with attention to promoting a positive patient experience to those we serve in the ED all while practicing and role-modelling our Covenant values of Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Social Justice. The Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) provides effective clinical leadership, functional supervision and, as needed, performs front line Registered Nursing duties; promotes and models leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills, and developing and maintaining strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice; fosters team effectiveness, demonstrates excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicates effectively and seeks to resolve issues; facilitates access and flow and works to remove barriers.

The AHN fosters team effectiveness, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, communicating effectively and seeking to resolve staff issues. The AHN develops a supportive environment for multidisciplinary learning. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the UNA Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Registered Nurse program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurse of Alberta (CRPNA) is required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required. Current ED charge RN experience. Urban Emergency experience 3 – 5 years.
