The Grey Nuns Hospital Emergency department is one of Edmonton’s highest volume Emergency Departments. Our team of health care professionals is focused on providing specialized Emergency care and urgent treatments in a community hospital setting. The Licensed Practical Nurse is an integral member of the ED team and provides a wide variety of nursing care to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families to make a positive difference toward their health and well-being. You will play a valued role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care with attention to promoting a positive patient experience to those we serve in the Emergency Department all while practicing and role-modelling our Covenant values of Respect, Compassion, Integrity, Collaboration, Stewardship, and Social Justice.

Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA) required. Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent experience within the last 2 years in a high-volume, Urban Emergency department OR Recent ICU/CCU experience OR Two years Medical/Surgical/Labor and Delivery experience required. Excellent assessment and organizational skills required. In this position, you will be on your feet for an extended period of time (both walking and standing), and you must be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients. You will also be required to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment.
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those with one or more of the following certifications: ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS, and EPIC. Experience and ability to work with cardiac monitors preferred. Dysrhythmia recognition and interpretation of ECG’s preferred. Experience with Connect Care EHR an asset.
