As a Workplace Injury Prevention Educator, you will play a key role in advancing a safe and healthy work environment by supporting injury prevention initiatives across Covenant Health sites. Working within the Safety & Hygiene team, you will help lead and sustain workplace injury prevention programs focused on safe patient handling, manual material handling, and ergonomic best practices. In this role, you will collaborate with leaders, frontline teams, educators, and workplace safety partners to provide education, consultation, and practical support that strengthens workplace safety culture and reduces the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. You will support program implementation, staff training, ergonomic assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting evidence-informed practices and legislative compliance. This position offers the opportunity to work across a diverse healthcare environment while contributing to meaningful organizational outcomes that support both staff well-being and quality patient care. This position is based in Edmonton and requires regular in-office presence. Following successful completion of the six-month probationary period, eligibility for a hybrid work arrangement of up to three days working in-office may be considered. Travel is required, and may include the use of a personal vehicle. A standard driver’s abstract may also be required for use of corporate lease vehicles.
Description:
Reporting to the Manager, Safety & Hygiene, the Workplace Injury Prevention Educator is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of workplace injury prevention initiatives across Covenant Health. The role supports organizational programs related to safe patient and resident handling, manual material handling, and office ergonomics, with the goal of promoting safe work practices, reducing workplace injuries, and supporting a culture of safety across the organization. The Workplace Injury Prevention Educator coordinates and delivers education and training through a combination ofonsite auditing/troubleshooting, online learning support, ongoing site support, and in-service education. The role works closely with leaders, frontline staff, trainers, and workplace safety partners to support consistent application of injury prevention practices and organizational standards. Key responsibilities include conducting ergonomic assessments, providing recommendations related to equipment and work practices, supporting implementation and continuous improvement initiatives, monitoring program effectiveness, and maintaining educational and training resources. The position also provides consultation and subject matter expertise related to workplace injury prevention, safe handling practices, and ergonomics while ensuring alignment with legislation, best practices, and organizational priorities. The successful candidate demonstrates strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills and is committed to supporting staff safety and wellness through collaborative and evidence-informed approaches. Completion of a post-secondary Therapy Assistant diploma from a recognized educational institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Minimum one (1) year of related experience is required, preferably within a healthcare, rehabilitation, workplace safety, ergonomics, or injury prevention environment involving patient or material handling practices. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required, as travel between Covenant Health sites is necessary for this position.
Additional Required Qualifications:The successful candidate demonstrates strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and build relationships with frontline staff, leaders, educators, and interdisciplinary teams. Strong organizational and time management skills are required, along with the ability to prioritize competing demands and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must demonstrate sound problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with the capacity to work independently while contributing collaboratively within a team environment. Experience delivering education, presentations, or training sessions to both groups and individuals is required, including the ability to adapt communication and learning approaches to meet diverse audience needs. Strong computer proficiency is required, including experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of medical terminology, workplace safety principles, ergonomics, and injury prevention practices is required. The successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, initiative, reliability, and a commitment to promoting a positive workplace safety culture aligned with Covenant Health’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
Preferred Qualifications:Deliver workplace safety, ergonomics, injury prevention, and safe patient handling education in healthcare settings. Conduct ergonomic assessments and provide recommendations related to workplace design, equipment use, safe patient handling, and manual material handling practices. Support program implementation, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives. Familiarity with adult learning, online learning, workplace safety legislation, and standards is an asset.
